PUB OF THE YEAR 2011
-
The CAMRA SW London Pub of the Year 2011 was announced at the Battersea Beer Festival at 4.30pm on Thursday 9th February.
All 1500+ branch members received a numbered voting form with the Christmas mailout.
Once again the voting was very close between the top two pubs.
The winning pub was the TRAFALGAR 23 High Path, Merton, London, SW19 2JY. The pub also won in 2009 and 2007.
Runner Up, for the second year in succession, was the Eagle Ale House, 104 Chatham Road, Battersea SW11 6HG.
Third place went to the Sultan, 78 Norman Road, South Wimbledon SW19 1BT.
There were seven pubs on the shortlist. As per CAMRAswl branch rules the previous year's winning pub is ineligible for this year's vote. The BRICKLAYER’S ARMS in Putney was the 2010 champion.
Our "just for fun poll" in which anyone could vote - not just CAMRA members - can be seen at http://polldaddy.com/poll/5826474/.
If you are wondering why we select the Pub of the Year 2011 when we are in 2012 it's because the award is retrospective - the winning pub was the best pub throughout the year of 2011.
CRICKET
- The CAMRAswl Cricket Section AGM and pre-season social is at the Sultan, SW19 from 19:30 on Saturday 3rd March. See Facebook for details.
- Our 2011 season's fixtures were mostly completed despite being affected by the incessant showery weather over the summer.
- On Sunday 19th June 2011 we took part in the annual Putney Cup at Raynes Park.
- This is a four team Twenty20 tournament where each team gets to play twice, a preliminary game followed by either the final or the 3rd/4th place match.
- CAMRAswl lost the first game by just one run but went on to take the shield for third place in the second game.
- Click to read the Putney Cup Report or see our main cricket page.
LOCALE
The CAMRA LocAle initiative is the accreditation scheme to promote pubs that sell locally-brewed real ale, reducing the number of ‘beer miles’ and supporting local breweries.- Several pubs in our area now have LocAle accreditation. This entails a pub permanently stocking at least one real ale produced within thirty miles of the pub.
- For more information and a list of accredited LocAle pubs in our area see our LocAle page.
CAMRA’s ON-LINE HERITAGE PUB GUIDE
- The National Inventory is CAMRA's pioneering effort to identify and protect the most important historic pub interiors in the country. It has always been part of the campaign's mission to not only save real ale but also Britain's rich heritage of pubs. See for yourself at www.heritagepubs.org.uk.
