SW London CAMRA Pub of the Year 2010

Bricklayer’s Arms is top pub again

The SW London CAMRA Pub of the Year for 2010 (i.e. the current Pub of the Year throughout 2011) is the Bricklayer’s Arms in Putney [website: www.bricklayers-arms.co.ukwebsite]. The Pub of the Year was announced at the Battersea Beer Festival on 10 February 2011 following a ballot of all SW London CAMRA branch members.

The well attended presentation was on Wednesday 4th May 2011.

The Bricklayer’s Arms was also the 2006 and 2008 winner and the 2007 and 2009 Greater London CAMRA Pub of the Year. This is a family owned independent freehouse offering Sambrook’s beers, guests from microbreweries and a real cider or perry.

As the vote was very close between the top two pubs the branch committee decided to award a special Runner-Up award to the Eagle Ale House which was presented at the pub on Monday 9th May. [photos]

There are over 420 pubs in our SW London CAMRA area with about half known to sell real ale. It’s only a small proportion of these which are featured in CAMRA’s Good Beer Guide 2011 from which our Pub of the Year finalists are selected.

As usual the previous year’s winning pub was not entered for this year’s award. The Pub of the Year 2009 winner was the Trafalgar in Merton. See the main Pubs page for other recent winners.

3. Nightingale, 97 Nightingale Lane, Balham SW12 8NX.
The Eagle Ale House and the Nightingale are less than 10 minutes walk apart so it's possible to visit both together.
The other five finalists are all well worth visiting too.

Our ‘just for fun’ on-line poll had no bearing on the official CAMRA members’ vote but was won by the Nightingale with the Bricklayer’s Arms, the Eagle Ale House and the Sultan in a three-way tie for second place.
